POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP (Plant Physiology)

DEPARTMENT OF NATURE CONSERVATION

One-Year Fixed Contract

Key Performance Areas:

  • Interact with collaborators to design experiments and develop process designs.
  • Draft grant applications in this broad research area.
  • Publish a minimum of 3 manuscripts per year in reputable journals and peer-reviewed conference proceedings in this field.
  • Manage an internal database containing the results of laboratory experiments and molecular simulations that can be used to model new applications.
  • Ability to co-supervise relevant postgraduate research and/or collaborating with other postdoctoral fellows.
  • Involvement in initiating and managing research projects.
  • Assisting in overall management and contribute to the various activities of the Research projects.
  • Initiating, developing and/or being involved in research networks, collaborations (i.e. formulating spin-offs, and joint ventures), institutional partnerships, and the organization of research events.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A recently earned PhD in Biological Science (specializing Plant Physiology, Invasive Biology, Ecology), graduated within the previous five years.
  • International Postdoctoral Research Fellows must have a long-term visitor’s visa endorsed for academic activities affiliated with MUT.
  • Solid knowledge of molecular dynamics simulation.
  • At least 4 published journal papers in the last 24 months.
  • Has not held full-time permanent academic or professional employment.
  • Established track record of publications and conference contributions related to the outlined research areas.
  • Experience in postgraduate student mentorship.

Competencies:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Physiological skills/techniques.

Salary Scale: R300,000.00 basic salary per annum – with no benefits

  • Solid knowledge of molecular dynamics simulation.
  • At least 4 published journal papers in the last 24 months.
  • Has not held full-time permanent academic or professional employment.

  • Experience in postgraduate student mentorship.

Competencies:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Coherent use of multiple computational approaches, such as molecular dynamics simulations.
