Financial Accountant

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BCom) or (Btech) in Finance with Accounting major (NQF 7 qualification)
  • At least 3 years working experience in finance environment
  • Advantageous: Knowledge and experience in public sector, CASEWARE, GRAP, PASTEL
  • Computer literacy, typing skills, and Code C1 driver’s license beneficial
  • Proficiency in verbal and written English

Key Performance Areas:

Financial Reporting:

  • Daily cashbook maintenance
  • Monthly and year-end journals preparation
  • Monthly reconciliations for expenditure and investment accounts
  • Account balance reconciliations
  • Quarterly and annual financial statements preparation
  • General ledger maintenance
  • Year-end audit file compilation

Revenue Management:

  • Weekly bank and revenue account reconciliation
  • Reversals and overwrites on the system
  • Fee and penalty raising as per regulations
  • Monthly revenue collection pay over to parent Department
  • Suspense account management

Payment Processing:

  • Loading payments onto banking system
  • Pre-authorization of payments
  • Compliance with payment policies and SOPs
  • Petty cash and claims payment processing

Resource Management:

  • Forecasting, budgeting, and resource allocation
  • Effective management of external contractors and suppliers
  • Risk identification and management
  • Capacity management for sustained service delivery

People Management:

  • Staff development, talent management, and performance management
  • Grievance, discipline, and termination management
  • Leadership to foster a culture of governance, customer service, and integrity
